Remembrance Day brings closures, reduced hours for some services and retailers on Monday

FRASER VALLEY – As Canadians across the country pay their respects to fallen soldiers on Monday, November 11th, several municipal agencies and businesses will close or reduce hours to observe Remembrance Day.

Most city halls and municipal services including those in Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Langley and District of Kent will shutter on Nov. 11.

Examples of services unavailable include the Agassiz Bottle Depot, Bailey Landfill and Parr Road Green Depot in Chilliwack, and Fraser Valley Regional District office.

Several community centres will close with some ice rinks, fitness centres and some pools either closed or operating with reduced hours.

The Abbotsford School District and Chilliwack School district say they will forgo classes to recognize veterans and close their sites to students and staff.

Most shopping centres, like Chilliwack’s Cottonwood Centre and Seven Oaks in Abbotsford, will open, but with reduced hours.

Grocery stores and BC Liquor Stores will generally be open with regular hours.There may be exceptions with some smaller private outlets operating with reduced hours.

Canada Post will not be operating Monday and will halt collection or delivery of mail. However, post offices operated by the private sector will open according to the hours of service of the host business.

All Fraser Valley Regional Library branches will be closed.

The Chilliwack Military Museum will be open from noon to 4 p.m. on Monday.
