ABBOTSFORD – The charity organization tasked with driving positive change in Abbotsford will reveal its biennial study on key indicators of growth and well-being across the community Tuesday.

The 2024 Vital Signs report from the Abbotsford Community Foundation will present data on a myriad of issues important to residents, including health and wellness, public safety, homelessness, and affordability.

“This year’s Vital Signs not only shares data that tells the story of how our community is faring in quality-of-life indicators; this year, we also spotlight food security,” the foundation stated in a recent announcement.

The previous report, released in 2022, revealed that life expectancy in the municipality was roughly on par with other communities in Canada. However, it noted that Abbotsford had fewer physicians per capita than most places in B.C. and Canada.

It also found that about three-quarters of residents believe there isn’t affordable housing for people of all income levels in the city.

In 2021, roughly 9,300 households accessed food bank services, while a census of agriculture revealed a loss of about 50 farms in the region over four years, dropping to just over 1,250.

The 2024 Vital Signs report will be released on Nov. 5, 2024, during a luncheon at the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce.

On the same day, the report will be available online at abbotsfordcf.org, or a hard copy can be picked up at the foundation’s office on Garden Street.
