CHILLIWACK — One man was taken into custody in connection with a shooting this morning after a bullet penetrated the wall of a residence on the 5600-block of Vedder Road. Chilliwack RCMP received the call at 5:58 a.m.

In response, police quickly evacuated surrounding residential units and nearby businesses as a precaution. Traffic in the vicinity was also rerouted to maintain public safety while officers addressed the situation. The Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team (IERT) was called to assist Chilliwack RCMP officers.

An RCMP news release says IERT arrested a male suspect without incident around 10 a.m. Police confirmed that the man is in custody, and the investigation remains ongoing. No injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.

According to police, the incident follows a recent trend of increased RCMP involvement in the area. Vedder Road and the affected area have since been reopened, allowing residents and business owners to return to their premises.

“Thank you for the cooperation and patience of those who were impacted by this unfolding incident,” said Corporal Carmen Kiener, spokesperson for the Chilliwack RCMP. “Ensuring the safety of our community is always our top priority.”
