Abbotsford teacher loses certificate due to sexual assault, assault
ABBOTSFORD — The B.C. Commissioner for Teacher Regulation says an Abbotsford middle school teacher has lost his teaching certificate due to a sexual assault conviction and a related conviction on assault charges.
According to a consent resolution agreement published on the BCCTR website, SD34 employee Khaled Hanafi Dardir was charged on July 26, 2021, with three charges under the Criminal Code of Canada, including one count of sexual assault and two counts of assault. In August 2021, Abbotsford School District suspended Dardir from teaching under the School Act.
On April 14, 2023, Dardir pleaded guilty in the Provincial Court of British Columbia in Surrey to one count of sexual assault that occurred in September 2020, and two counts of assault that happened in March and April of 2021. In January 2024, the court instituted a conditional discharge for Dardir and imposed probation for 24 months, mandated him not to have any contact with the victim, and required that he not possess a firearm for five years, among other conditions.
The convictions for sexual assault and assault weren’t Dardir’s first incident of misconduct. Abbotsford School District previously suspended Dardir for three days without pay in June 2020 for sexual harassment and harassment of a colleague. Dardir was required to complete remedial education as a result of the misconduct.
