CHILLIWACK — The Correctional Service of Canada says it held an Affirmation of Command ceremony earlier this week to install new wardens at five Fraser Valley correctional facilities.

According to a news release from the federal agency, CSC says the formal occasion embodies the responsibility of leadership in the role of warden, thereby reinforcing the responsibility, authority, and accountability of a correctional leader.

On Monday, October 28, a ceremony marking the occasion was held at the following five correctional institutions in the Fraser Valley:

  • Warden Morgan Andreassen assumed command of Matsqui Institution in Abbotsford.
  • Warden Carole Chen assumed command of Fraser Valley Institution in Abbotsford.
  • Warden Dan Jack assumed command of Kwìkwèxwelhp Healing Village in Harrison Mills.
  • Warden Jordan Quaroni assumed command of Mountain Institution in Agassiz.
  • Warden Attila Turi assumed command of Pacific Institution and Regional Treatment Centre in Abbotsford.

“The Affirmation of Command is an opportunity for a Warden to affirm their institutional responsibilities to their staff, the region, the Correctional Service of Canada, the federal public service, and the people of Canada,” said Brooke Kassen, Acting Regional Deputy Commissioner for the Correctional Service of Canada, Pacific Region. “We welcome and acknowledge the appointment of each of these exceptional individuals into their roles as Warden.”

CSC says it is proud of the dedicated staff members at these institutions who work tirelessly every day to make a difference in the lives of offenders.

“Their professionalism and commitment contribute to public safety for Canadians,” CSC said.
