VICTORIA – A partial count of more than 66,000 mail-in ballots from British Columbia’s provincial election boosted results for a couple of NDP candidates but didn’t change any leads in some tight electoral races.

As of late Saturday afternoon, Elections BC had added roughly 10,000 more votes to the final tally, with two of the close ridings — Juan de Fuca-Malahat and Surrey City Centre — seeing NDP candidates extending their leads.

At 4 p.m. on Saturday, Surrey City Centre NDP candidate Amna Shah saw her lead grow by 179 votes to 6,619, which is 178 more than the Conservative candidate Zeeshan Wahla.

In Juan de Fuca-Malahat, Dana Lajuenesse gained 235 votes for a total of 9,181, putting her 106 ahead of Conservative Marina Sapozhinikov.

The closest race continues to be in Surrey-Guildford, where Conservative candidate Honveer Singh Randhawa leads NDP incumbent Garry Begg by just 12 votes.

There were no changes in the lead across the Fraser Valley ridings, with only 11 votes added across six regions.

None of these ridings are among the nine across the province considered to be close races.

The NDP is still leading overall with 46 seats, the Conservatives are close behind with 45, and the Greens are holding on to two.

The final tally is expected to be completed on Monday, when the remaining absentee ballots are counted.

Results will be updated hourly on the Elections BC website on the 28th.
