Conservatives sweep Abbotsford ridings in B.C. election

ABBOTSFORD — A blue wave of BC Conservatives swept through Abbotsford in B.C.’s 43rd provincial election Saturday night.
The party, led by John Rustad, won all four Abbotsford ridings, defeating some high profile NDP candidates. Voters in Abbotsford-Mission failed to return BC NDP cabinet minister Pam Alexis to Victoria. Instead, they elected Reann Gasper of the BC Conservatives.
Bruce Banman of the BC Conservative party has been returned to Victoria as the victorious candidate in the Abbotsford South riding. Banman was one of the first members of the BC United Party to jump ship to the Conservatives. Banman collected more than 60 per cent of the vote to easily outdistance Sarah Kooner of the BC NDP. Amandeep Singh, an independent candidate, finished a distant third.
The BC Conservatives captured the Abbotsford West riding. Korky Neufeld won more than 50 per cent of the popular vote to handily defeat Graeme Hutchison of the BC NDP. James Davison, an independent was third with less than five per cent of the popular vote.
