CHILLIWACK — The City of Chilliwack says a visible fire is underway in the mountains southeast of Chilliwack Friday morning, but there’s no reason for alarm.

In a social media post, the city says the blaze is a controlled slash burn and regulated by the provincial government. Burning operations are expected to end sometime later in the day, but smoke may remain visible to Chilliwack residents.

The city says Chilliwack Fire Department personnel are in regular contact with both the Ministry of Forests and Coastal Fire Centre personnel and will continue to monitor the situation.

A few social media groups in Chilliwack posted pictures about the controlled fire, with some stating they believed it was a controlled slash burn. Others had called in the fire and learned it was a controlled burn.
