CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack Park Society, a non-profit committed to enhancing and promoting the well-being of parks and trails in and around Chilliwack, says it is welcoming applications for its 2024 board of director positions to coincide with its annual general meeting later this month.

On its website, Chilliwack Park Society says it is fielding applications for its 2024 board of directors from individuals who are passionate about trails in Chilliwack and are looking for a way to make a difference in the community. The non-profit endeavours to shape Chilliwack into the outdoor destination that it is capable of becoming.

According to its website, the Chilliwack Park Society (CPS) Board of Directors (BOD) consists of eleven (11) volunteers “working together to provide strategic leadership to ensure that the organization achieves the mission of the community.” The BOD is elected at the AGM by CPS members. The organization states all positions in 2024 are open for election/re-election to facilitate staggered board terms in order to foster a more sustainable board governance model into the future.

Five of the 11 board positions will be set for a temporary one-year term, while six positions will be set for a full two-year term as follows:

  • Chair – 2-year term (must be current 2 year+ CPS director)
  • Vice Chair – 1-year term (must be current 2 year+ CPS director)
  • Treasurer – 2-year term
  • Secretary – 1-year term
  • Director – 1-year term – 3 positions open (portfolios determined at first director meeting)
  • Director – 2-year term – 2 positions open (portfolios determined at first director meeting)

Starting in 2025, all terms will be elected for a period of two (2) years.

Delineated duties of directors at large are considered flexible and assigned at the first directors meeting. Chilliwack Park Society takes into consideration relevant skills and interests of applicants when it comes to assignments. Board members can anticipate a time commitment of anywhere from 4-7 hours per month toward their respective board duties and roles throughout the year, although this varies based upon specific roles and time of year. Regular meetings are held quarterly or at the direction of the board chair as necessary, with the expectation that a minimum rate of 50 per cent attendance be fulfilled. Board members are invited to participate in a variety of activities such as supporting trail building and trail days, assisting at events, and leading or participating in committee assignments.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to fill out the application/nomination form by Sunday, October 20.

CPS will hold its AGM Wednesday, October 23 at 7 p.m. at Pedal Sports, 45960 Alexander Avenue, in Chilliwack.
