ABBOTSFORD – Actor auditions for a forthcoming stage production set during the German occupation of Poland in World War II are scheduled for late October.

Abbotsford-based Gallery 7 Theatre will be seeking performers aged 20 and up as preparations for the January run of Irena’s Vow continue.

Based on a true story, the production focuses on the plight of Irena Gut, a housekeeper for a high-ranking Nazi officer, who shelters Jewish workers in the basement of the house where she serves.

“Irena’s Vow is a story I’ve been wanting to stage at Gallery 7 Theatre ever since I first came across it many years ago,” says managing artistic director Ken Hildebrandt.

“While it takes place during a particularly dark time in our history, the play is also incredibly humbling and inspiring.”

The production runs from late January to early February at the Abbotsford Arts Centre on Crescent Way.

Auditions on October 24 will take place at Gallery 7 Theatre’s Rehearsal Hall on 3rd Avenue in Abbotsford, starting at 6 p.m.
