FRASER VALLEY — Vigilant staff members at a medium-security prison in the Fraser Valley are being credited with intercepting a package containing nearly two pounds of crystal meth and contraband estimated at over $570,000 in value.

According to a news release Wednesday from Correctional Service Canada, a package containing 816 grams of crystal methamphetamine, four SD cards, two charging cables and a charging block was seized Saturday, October 5 at Mission Institution in Mission. The total estimated value of these seizures is $575,500.

CSC says authorities have been notified and the institution is investigating.

CSC says it is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to preserve a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who try to smuggle contraband into correctional institutions.
