HOPE — The District of Hope announced Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 9) it has lifted the boil water advisory that was in effect for over four days.

According to a notice on its social media pages, the boil water advisory has been rescinded, but the district says its water system for the affected area will remain chlorinated until it is fully confident that the source of contamination has been identified and corrective action taken.

“This precautionary measure is in line with guidelines provided by Fraser Health to ensure the continued safety and well being of our community,” the district said. “We understand the inconvenience this advisory has caused and appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation during this time.”

Last Saturday, October 5, authorities began advising residents in an area east of the municipality to avoid drinking tap water without boiling it first. Public works officials said the recent discovery of E. coli bacteria in the water supply was behind the health risk.
