CHILLIWACK — It wasn’t the outcome that Sardis Secondary wanted, but the Falcons still gave No. 2-ranked AA powerhouse Robert Bateman of Abbotsford a run for their money.

Sardis junior receiver Alex Cayer had 12 catches for 100 yards, and Falcons senior quarterback Blake Mailhot completed 21 passes for 229 yards and a pair of touchdowns, as Sardis came up short in a 27-14 defeat at Exhibition Field in Chilliwack Friday.

“It was an incredible football game. It was a very physical contest, and both teams came to play,” said Sardis Falcons head coach Sukh Parmar. “The atmosphere was just awesome at Exhibition Stadium. It was loud because of the fans and both schools brought their drumlines. The players fed off that energy.”

In a game in which both teams went back and forth with big plays and big hits, the Sardis offense was efficient throughout the first half. Cayer, the junior receiver, caught a 15-yard touchdown to tie the game before halftime. The Timberwolves extended the lead during the 3rd quarter to 21-7 before Blake Mailhot found hit senior receiver Jeremy St. Denis for a thrilling 80-yard touchdown pass. Senior safety Max Murphy led the Falcons on defense with 8 solo tackles.

“Although we did not get the result we wanted, we learned how to compete against a very good football team,” Coach Parmar said. “Congrats to Bateman and Coach Mills.”
