KELOWNA — The G.W. Graham Grizzlies needed clutch performances from its offensive and defensive stalwarts to get the job done against a tough opponent in Mt. Boucherie last Friday.

On both sides of the ball, the Grizzlies didn’t disappoint.

Running back Denver Adam had 192 yards on the ground, and quarterback Lincoln Boyd was scintillating in the pocket on 21-of-26 passing for 157 yards and two critical touchdowns, including a game-winning toss to receiver Michael Blair in the waning moments of the game, as the Grizzlies beat the Bears 20-14 at the Apple Bowl in Kelowna last Friday (Oct. 4).

Just as its offence shone brightly, the Grizzlies ‘D’ stepped up in a huge way with an interception and two forced fumbles in the game’s final four minutes, enabling them to emerge with the victory. The Grizzlies defence stopped Mt. Boucherie from scoring in the second half, spearheaded by linebackers Ridley Mastin, Noah Sandau, and Charlie Larson. Their efforts were complemented by Isreal Muteba’s timely interception and two forced fumbles (D’lynn Bardwell and Jack Ekland) in the final four minutes, providing the Grizzlies with opportunities to seal the win.

Grizzlies offensive coordinator Jeff Fraser said, “This was a great team win on the road and a clutch performance from our defense.”

With the victory, the Grizzlies are riding a wave of momentum and will try to maintain their winning streak in their upcoming clash against well-coached W.J. Mouat of Abbotsford this Friday, October 11.
