Chiefs split weekend series with Coquitlam Express

CHILLIWACK – The Chilliwack Chiefs split a two-game home-and-home series with BCHL Coastal East leaders, the Coquitlam Express, Friday and Saturday.

After a goal six minutes into the third period at the Chilliwack Coliseum Saturday night, the home team appeared to be headed for a series sweep before goals from Coquitlam’s Ryan Staples and Joseph Odyniec completed a 4-3 Express comeback.

Odyniec’s goal came late with just 14 seconds left in the third.

The night before, the Chiefs never looked back after Hunter McInnes scored in the first five minutes of the second period at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.

Dakota MacIntosh would get his third of the season, and Caleb Elfering would also score in the third to give the road Chiefs a 4-1 win in Coquitlam.

The Chiefs’ seven points after six games put them third in the Coastal East Division, while the Express top the group with 10 points after the same number of games played.

The Chiefs are home to the Sherwood Park Crusaders on Friday and will host the Blackfalds Bulldogs at the Coliseum Saturday.
