HARRISON HOT SPRINGS — A vehicle reportedly crashed into the front yard of a residence and collided with a utility pole south of Harrison Hot Springs Monday afternoon, resulting in a passenger being extricated from what appeared to be a Dodge flatbed pickup truck.

According to Agassiz-area resident Tyler Man, who witnessed the aftermath of the incident Monday, the driver of the flatbed pickup truck reportedly struck a utility pole sometime around 4 p.m. Monday. The driver of the vehicle reportedly hit a fence along the back of the house. The area where the crash occurred is an 80-kilometre speed zone, close to Golf Road, Man said.

“I got there right as the fire chief arrived,” Man said in describing the accident scene. “I was just a couple minutes behind him, and the ambulance had just shown up when I took that photo. I had my window open waiting to see if I was getting cleared to go through and I heard the paramedic asking for more help because they had to do a spinal board extraction and when I got by, they were just having the firetruck rescue show up and everybody else was just behind that. The driver paramedics were just getting set up and there was a whole bunch of people hanging around the truck.”

RCMP, BC EHS and local firefighters attended the scene. Man said rescue crews reportedly conducted a spinal board extrication on a passenger of the flatbed pickup-looking vehicle. Hot Springs Road was closed for a bit, Man said.

“It’s not a spot that I would expect somebody to crash unless they were swerving to avoid hitting an animal,” Man said. “That’s because the telephone pole is off the road in the person’s front yard, so [the truck] had to jump off the road into the yard and take out the pole and keep going. Something must have caused the truck to steer to the right, probably the tree that he hit, otherwise he would’ve continued straight into a bunch of hedges and possibly into the neighbour’s yard. But because the truck turned, it looks like the fence stopped it, and it was up against the side of the house.”

According to X/Twitter account BC Scan, the address where the incident occurred is 3628 Hot Springs Road, Agassiz, not far from Harrison Resort Golf Course. Reports of a crash came in at 4:06 p.m. Monday, BC Scan reported. The pole was reportedly sheared off at the base, prompting BC Hydro crews to be dispatched Monday.
