CHILLIWACK — G.W. Graham running back Denver Adam wasted no time introducing himself to the Handsworth Royals of North Vancouver Friday night under the lights at Exhibition Field in Chilliwack.

On the Grizzlies’ first play from scrimmage, Adam took it to the house for the first of three touchdowns he would score in a 147-yard performance, setting the tone for a decisive 47-6 victory and second consecutive win after a 45-34 comeback win over Notre Dame the week prior.

The contest showcased Graham’s core competencies in skill and execution, as well as their unrelenting effort from opening kickoff to the final whistle. Adam’s electrifying run paved the way for other contributors like Leo Fortier, who found the end zone on a 38-yard touchdown scamper. Quarterback Lincoln Boyd demonstrated poise in the pocket by completing 78 per cent of his passes and effectively distributing the football to six different receivers.

Anchoring the defensive masterpiece was Ridley Mastin, who registered five tackles and an interception, giving the Grizzlies a prime opportunity on a short field. Defensive tackle D’Lynn Bardwell-Agagnier had a breakout game with 3 tackles and a sack. By halftime, the Grizzlies had surged ahead to a commanding 33-0 lead, erasing any doubt about their offensive abilities.

Charlie Larson’s interception further crushed the Royals’ hopes of a comeback, while additional touchdowns by Camden Kerr and Michael Blair, his second on the day, rounded out the scoring.

G.W. Graham head Mike Hayes said, “I am proud of the boys’ effort and was happy to get all of our kids game reps. I think we have an opportunity to learn from some mistakes and clean up some of our penalties going into next week. Overall it was a solid win but we need to put it behind us now and focus on the challenge ahead.”

As the season progresses, the Grizzlies say they will look to build on this dominant performance and continue their success as they enter the regular season matchup at Carson Graham this Friday, Sept. 27 in North Vancouver.
