UPDATE MONDAY AT 12:45 P.M.: Chilliwack Lake Road has reportedly reopened after a vehicle incident blocked it for several hours Monday morning.

UPDATE MONDAY AT 9:25 A.M.: A Chilliwack resident reports, as of 9:03 a.m., that an RCMP member told her it could be at least two more hours before single-lane alternating traffic will occur on Chilliwack Lake Road east of the Vedder Bridge.

CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack Lake Road about one kilometre east of the Vedder Bridge is blocked Monday morning following a reported vehicle incident.

Chilliwack RCMP vehicles are blocking both directions of eastbound and westbound Chilliwack Lake Road after a vehicle reportedly crashed and possibly hit a power pole.

According to scanner traffic and witness descriptions, BC Hydro was dispatched and arrived at approximately 8:35 a.m. Approximately 838 BC Hydro customers have been without power since 8:01 a.m. Their power could be restored by 2 p.m. Monday, BC Hydro’s website estimates.

One witness said two vehicles are in the ditch, of which one reportedly hit a pole. A power pole is hanging, but wires are still attached to the pole. Another person wrote on Facebook the two vehicles are reportedly a truck and an SUV.

Traffic flaggers are reportedly on scene, according to one witness.

The Chilliwack River Valley is home to over 1,500 residents east of the Vedder Bridge.
