Fall Adopt a River cleanup picks up in Chilliwack this weekend

Sep 20, 2024 | 2:01 PM

CHILLIWACK – A Chilliwack-based nonprofit dedicated to keeping the river valley clean will host a BC Rivers Cleanup event this Sunday at Thompson Regional Park.

The Chilliwack Vedder River Cleanup Society (CVRCS) is partnering with the Fraser Valley Regional District for the Adopt a River program. The organized event begins with registration at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 22.

Participants will receive garbage and recycling bags, along with gloves, for the trek, which will take place rain or shine.

The CVRCS is looking for participants with four-wheel drive vehicles to tackle challenging terrain during the cleanup.

Free disposal is available on site, along with a collection service for items too bulky or heavy for volunteer groups.

Participating groups will be recognized with an Adopt a River sign.

Cleanup events, usually held in April and September, have removed over 115 tonnes of waste from the Vedder/Chilliwack River shoreline since 2002.
