ABBOTSFORD — A trio of Fraser Valley-area volunteer fire departments will soon receive new fire trucks after regional politicians approved a plan to replace aging vehicles.

Proposals from Abbotsford-based Hub Fire Engines were approved Thursday to supply Freightliner M2 fire trucks for the Chilliwack River Valley, North Fraser, and Yale fire departments.

The new vehicles, which average around $660,000 each, will replace three other Freightliners purchased in the early 2000s and have reached the end of their service life.

“The Fraser Valley Regional District has purchased apparatus from HUB Fire Engines in the past,” the region’s manager of Protective Services explained in a staff report.
“HUB Fire Engines is local, and the Fire Chiefs and their teams will be able to access the apparatus throughout the build process.”
