Driver fatigue thought to be reason behind deadly crash that killed three near Agassiz
AGASSIZ — RCMP investigators believe driver fatigue played a role in a tragic accident that killed three family members along Lougheed Highway on July 9.
According to an RCMP news release, investigators determined that a vehicle carrying two adults and an infant child crossed over the center line and traveled in the opposite direction for some time before colliding head-on with a tractor-trailer.
Police say both drivers made last-second attempts to avoid the crash. While the exact cause is still under investigation, all signs point to driver fatigue playing a significant role. The crash was reported at approximately 3:27 a.m.
“I encourage all motorists who are experiencing fatigue to pull over in a safe place and rest,” said Sgt. Andy Lot, the Agassiz RCMP Detachment Commander. “I would like to thank my officers and all the first responders who attended this tragic incident for their hard work and dedication.”
