LANGLEY — A tow truck driver is dead following a crash on the Trans-Canada Highway near Langley late Friday night, say RCMP.

A passenger was also injured after the vehicle collided with a semi-trailer on Highway 1 in an eastbound lane near 264 Street just after 9:40 p.m.

“The driver of the tow truck was deceased at the scene, and the passenger … was airlifted to a local hospital with serious injuries,” Langley RCMP Sgt. Joe Leeson said.

The tow truck had been hauling another car when it hit the rear of the semi, according to Leeson. Highway 1 was closed overnight and reopened shortly after 9 a.m. on Saturday.
