VANCOUVER — Environment Canada has issued a Rainfall Warning for the Fraser Valley, including Chilliwack and Abbotsford.

The national weather agency forecasts heavy rain with a total accumulation of up to 50 mm. The rain is being produced by a low-pressure system off the coast of Oregon that is tracking north. The heaviest rainfall is expected from Friday evening into Saturday morning.

The agency warns that heavy downpours could lead to flash floods in some areas, and drivers should be cautious of water pooling on roads and highways. Localized flooding may also occur in low-lying areas.

Those traveling on rural roads should watch for small landslides, especially in areas where wildfires have killed vegetation that helps stabilize the ground.
