CHILLIWACK — Not long after BRGR BRGR closed in Garrison Village due to the rising cost of doing business in Canada, the franchise that bills itself as the largest seafood chain in Canada is coming to Chilliwack to replace the former burger joint.

Joey’s Fish Shack, a franchise with locations in five provinces across Canada including British Columbia, has unveiled a banner across the front of the vacant retail space at 101-45655 Tamihi Way in Garrison Village, formerly occupied by BRGR BRGR.

Joey’s Fish Shack has weekly promotions like all you can eat seafood Tuesdays, which means you can dine-in on unlimited Alaska pollock and chips, its website points out; Taco Thursdays where the restaurant offers great deals on individual tacos; and special features like chimichurri batter, a batter featuring fresh herbs, zesty garlic and a hint of chili, Japanese batter infused with soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, ginger puree and black sesame seeds, or a pakora batter inspired by India’s spice bazaars.

The restaurant began when husband and wife Joe and Theresa Klassen opened the first Joey’s restaurant in Calgary in 1985. The company says its goal was always to serve delicious and affordable seafood. Since then, Joey’s says it has expanded to become the largest seafood restaurant chain in Canada.

“We are passionate about serving authentic fish & chips to Canadians, which means every Joey’s restaurant hand cuts and batters each piece of fish. We also care about the environment which is why most of our seafood is sustainably sourced, and we have eco-friendly take-out packaging,” the company said.
