Three small wildfires burning out of control in Chilliwack area

Aug 10, 2024 | 6:17 AM

CHILLIWACK — The BC Wildfire Service is dealing with three fires burning in the Chilliwack area on Saturday (Aug.10) morning. All three are small but are considered to be burning out of control.

The Harrison Hill fire was spotted Friday north of Chilliwack. The BCWS says the fire is burning in an area with steep terrain. It’s not threatening any homes but the BCWS warns residents the fire will produce visible smoke through the day. The BCWS says the fire is under investigation but signs point to lightning as the ignition source.

There are also two unnamed wildfires burning southeast of Cultus Lake near the United States border. Both are less than an acre in size and are listed as burning out of control. The BCWS says the fires were identified Friday. The cause of the fires has not been determined.

The Coastal Fire Centre is expected to provide updates on the wildfires later Saturday morning.
