Chilliwack Chiefs announce return of veteran Sorace
CHILLIWACK — The Chilliwack Chiefs have announced that 2004-born defenceman Lucas Sorace will return to the Chiefs for his final BCHL season. Sorace, who is committed to Division One Quinnipiac for the 2025-26 NCAA season, was re-acquired from the Penticton Vees in exchange for future considerations.
Chiefs Head Coach and GM Brian Maloney says the decision to trade Sorace was a difficult one for the organization. So when the opportunity arose to bring him back to Chilliwack, he jumped at it. “First off, Lucas is a great person,” said Maloney. “When the opportunity came around to get him back here, as a staff we felt it was 100% the right thing for our group with his size, skating ability, character, and veteran experience.”
Despite battling injuries, Sorace has played 111 regular season games and 38 postseason games in the BCHL. His performance for Penticton during their playoff run last season highlighted his capabilities, which the Chiefs hope to leverage this season.
“Lucas is a player that checks well, moves pucks well, and understands how to impact the game in a positive way,” said Chiefs Associate Coach & Director of Hockey Development Brad Rihela. “We are excited to take a run at a championship with a veteran leader like Lucas back in our program.”
