AGASSIZ — Correctional staff at a medium-security federal prison west of Agassiz deserve a major tip of the hat.

Correctional Service Canada says a package containing contraband and other unlawful items estimated at over $845,000 in value was confiscated on the perimeter of Mountain Institution on Friday, July 26, due to the vigilance of staff members.

The illicit items seized included crystal methamphetamine, THC, steroids, tobacco, nicotine patches, and cell phones and accessories. The total estimated institutional value of these seizures is $847,000.

The Agassiz RCMP detachment has been notified about the seizure of contraband and the prison itself is investigating.
