CHILLIWACK — A Chilliwack non-profit organization whose mission is to provide a variety of volunteer support services and fundraising initiatives that benefit health care services at Chilliwack General Hospital is now an official charity for tax purposes.

According to a news release from the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation, Chilliwack Hospital Auxiliary has become a registered Canadian charity, meaning the volunteer-based entity can issue tax receipts to its donors.

Throughout the years, Chilliwack Hospital Auxiliary has repeatedly and graciously donated funds to help the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation purchase much needed equipment, FVHCF says.

Karen Houlden, a Chilliwack Hospital Auxiliary volunteer, said, “The Auxiliary becoming a registered charity is a great opportunity for us to raise additional funds for our hospital equipment. We can now issue tax receipts to our donors whether it be cash or gifts.”

“Their commitment to continuously improve the health and wellness of the community has been an anchor to their success,” Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation said in its news release.

Members of the Chilliwack Hospital Auxiliary meet regularly throughout the year and participate in community events. The Auxiliary says it contributes to the quality of patient care through a number of services and raises funds to assist in purchasing hospital equipment. Volunteers with the Auxiliary donate time at the Thrift Shoppe, the Knitting Case, staff the information booth at Chilliwack General Hospital, and participate in the Ambulatory Day Care program.
