Agassiz Fire Dept. contains fire at Agassiz school Wednesday

AGASSIZ — Fraser-Cascade School District says a fire occurred Wednesday afternoon (July 24) at Agassiz Elementary-Secondary School as a result of roofing renovations.

According to a brief statement on its social media page, SD78 says the fire broke out early afternoon due to work being done on a roof at the school, located at 7110 Cheam Avenue. Roofing staff tried to contain it, but the Agassiz Fire Department was able to extinguish it and limit it from spreading.

Agassiz Fire was paged at approximately 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, and Popkum Fire, Harrison Fire and Seabird Island Fire were paged to assist with mutual aid. The fire reportedly started in the ceiling.

The fire was knocked down at approximately 3 p.m. It’s not known if there were any injuries to firefighters.
