CHILLIWACK — BC Emergency Health Services has confirmed that two people were hospitalized after an incident early Monday morning (July 22) near Broadway and Woodbine Street in Chilliwack.

Fraser Valley Today has also learned from speaking to the parent of one of the victims that an 18-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl were struck by BBs sometime around 2 a.m. early Monday morning (July 22).

According to a statement issued by BC EHS public information officer Rachelle Brown Tuesday morning, paramedics received a call at 2 a.m. on July 22 regarding a police incident at Woodbine and Broadway in Chilliwack. Two ambulances with primary care paramedics and one ambulance staffed with advanced care paramedics responded to the scene.

“Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to two patients who were transported to hospital,” BC EHS spokesperson Rachelle Brown said.

A parent who spoke to Fraser Valley Today says her 18-year-old daughter has had headaches off and on since the incident. The 17-year-old girl reportedly had stitches to the back of her head, the parent said. The two were transported to Chilliwack General Hospital for treatment.

“My daughter and her friend called 911 and said they were shot at,” said the parent, who is not being identified. “My daughter called once she realized she was hit. I think for a few minutes they probably thought it was a real gun. Just glad it wasn’t.”

The parent says the BB missed her 18-year-old daughter’s eye but struck her above the eyebrow and “traveled back quite a bit towards her temple, and had to be cut out.”

The parent says the RCMP officer who responded to Chilliwack General Hospital said nothing will probably come of the incident since they don’t have any leads.

“No one has followed up with me [since the incident],” the parent said.
