SUV crashes into a ditch on Keith Wilson Road after driver says his front left tire came off

CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack Fire Department and Chilliwack RCMP personnel were dispatched Wednesday (July 24) after an SUV crashed into a ditch in the 43300 block of Keith Wilson Road, west of Lickman Road.

First responders were called to the area at 11:42 a.m. for the report of a motor vehicle incident near 43333 Keith Wilson Road. A Dodge Journey SUV crashed into a ditch on the north side of the rural country road.

Engines from Halls 1 (Cheam Avenue), 3 (Yarrow), 4 (South Sumas), and 6 (Greendale) were initially paged, though Yarrow and Greendale volunteers were advised to stand down shortly after the call first came in.

Fraser Valley Today spoke to the driver of the vehicle, Leonard, who said his left front tire came off and rolled somewhere west of the accident scene. He thanked God and said he was OK multiple times during a brief conversation with a news reporter.

Leonard, a tall man who was wearing shorts, a Hawaiian-style button shirt and a hat, said he recently had his Dodge Journey SUV serviced and could not understand how or why the front left tire came off prior to the accident. He said he was not a mechanic and didn’t know a ton about vehicles, but had his vehicle serviced by a Chilliwack mechanic on Keith Wilson Road, not far from the accident scene, named Ken Bradford.

Leonard did not display any apparent signs of impairment at the accident scene, and spoke coherently with a news reporter. An RCMP officer parked his SUV along Keith Wilson Road in the aftermath of the crash, presumably filling out paperwork.

The crash did not appear to damage any nearby properties as the man’s car was submerged in the dry ditch. There were no other occupants of the vehicle beside the driver.
