A Facebook post from Mary Trafford has called for volunteers, jet skis and people to walk the river at Island 22 Regional Park adjacent to the Fraser River. Trafford says the search will begin today (Monday, July 22) at 2 p.m. and continue through to 9 p.m. tonight.

The man’s vehicle was found on a dirt road leading into Island 22, just off to the shoulder, Trafford said. His car was left unlocked and a dog was left behind.

“We need all the help we can get,” Trafford said. “Say you’re helping in [the] search and we will ask Island 22 to waive admission costs. We need as many volunteers as we can muster. Let’s pull it together in the ‘Wack.”

Trafford has asked for people to bring flashlights and walking sticks.

“If out on the water tomorrow (Monday), please keep eyes and ears open,” Trafford said. “Thank you for showing up folks.”

Police say they are very concerned for Donald Alarie’s health and well-being, and friends and family report that it is out of character for him to be out of contact for this long.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Donald Alarie is urged to contact Chilliwack RCMP 604-792-4611. The RCMP file number is 24-30699.
