SURREY — A fatal crash early Sunday has added to a string of deadly incidents on B.C. roads this month. The collision occurred near the intersection of 144 Street and 62 Avenue in Surrey around 4:30 a.m., Surrey RCMP reported.

Despite lifesaving efforts, one person was declared dead at the scene. The Surrey RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service were dispatched to investigate.

The area surrounding the crash site has been closed to traffic to allow a thorough examination of the evidence. Drivers are advised to expect significant delays, as the closure will remain in effect for an undetermined amount of time while the scene is processed.

Surrey RCMP are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash camera footage from the area to contact them at 604-599-0502.

This incident follows a troubling pattern of motor vehicle-related deaths in the province. From July 5 to July 10, the BC Coroners Service Office reported 19 fatalities, prompting a safety message urging drivers to slow down. The summer months mark the deadliest season on B.C. roads, with approximately one-third of all vehicle fatalities occurring in July, August, and September.
