AGASSIZ — Sq’éwqel (Seabird Island) First Nation in Agassiz believes there are people from the community who may have more information about a woman connected to the band who sadly passed earlier this year.

According to a Facebook posting on Monday, July 8, Sq’éwqel (Seabird Island) urges anyone from its First Nation community to come forward and speak with police about the passing of Vanessa “Ness” Terry, who died in April 2024.

Seabird Island did not include details of Terry’s passing in their Facebook page, but believes someone knows something about the circumstances surrounding her death.

“Our hope is that someone simply comes forward with facts to assist the investigation, since there is relation to our Community,” Seabird Island admin wrote on Facebook in response to a question.

Terry was reportedly found deceased April 6 in Seabird, according to one Facebook commenter who likely knows the situation.

“We believe there are still those out there with information, who have yet to speak with the police about the tragic passing of Vanessa ‘Ness’ Terry,” Seabird Island wrote. “The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) continues to work closely with the Agassiz RCMP Detachment.”

Seabird Island says a police investigator can meet individuals at a convenient time and place to speak about the case.

“Our sincerest Condolences go out to our Community, loved ones and friends,” Seabird Island administration wrote.
