HOPE — Stories abound on social media about people being approached in gas station or big box supermarket parking lots by scam artists offering gold for sale.
Case in point, one man is facing charges for his alleged role in selling fake gold jewelry at a commercial business on Flood Hope Road in Hope.
According to a news release from Hope RCMP spokesperson S/Sgt. Michael Sargent, Hope RCMP were alerted on Friday, July 5, at approximately 2 p.m., that an individual was reportedly selling fake jewelry in the 63000 block of Flood Hope Road in Hope. Police attended the scene and located a man who was identified as the seller of the fake gold items. He was taken into custody, S/Sgt. Sargent said.
A search produced a large quantity of fake gold necklaces, rings and gold bars as well as a counterfeit Rolex watch. The man has since been charged with fraud-related offences. Hope RCMP were able to determine that this person was part of a larger group of individuals operating in the Hope area.
