CHILLIWACK — The Chilliwack Chiefs as saluting Associate Coach Andrew Shaw as he leaves the team to become the video coach with the Abbotsford Canucks of the American Hockey League.

Shaw began his tenure with his hometown team during the 2019/2020 season, initially focusing on tagging game films. In a news release, the Chiefs says his work ethic and attention to detail quickly earned him additional responsibilities, including coaching the penalty kill. Shaw’s leadership significantly improved the team’s penalty-killing performance.

“While taking the next step in my coaching journey is exciting, it is difficult to move on from a first-class organization,” said Shaw.

Chiefs Head Coach and General Manager Brian Maloney expressed pride in Shaw’s development and achievements over the years. “Andrew came to us as a young local kid carrying tons of knowledge. He was good at listening and wanted to learn,” Maloney said. “So many coaches are stubborn and stuck in their ways, but Shaw was willing to adapt and improve.”
