CHILLIWACK — Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement in response to temperatures forecast above seasonal averages throughout the Fraser Valley for the next 3-5 days.

According to a statement from Environment Canada at 1:06 p.m. Thursday (July 4), an increasing ridge of high pressure over the region will usher in daytime temperatures in the upper 20s to lower 30s, and overnight temperatures will only dip into the mid to upper teens. Relatively cooler temperatures can be expected nearer the water. Chilliwack could see a high of 33 on Monday, with a humidex of at least 1-2 degrees hotter.

Environment Canada says it’s not known exactly how long the heat streak will persist, but heat warnings may be required. The national forecaster urges people to watch for the effects of heat illness, including heavy sweating, rash, cramps, fainting, high body temperature and the worsening of some health conditions. It’s reminding people to never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle, and to seek a cool place such as a tree-shaded area, swimming pool, shower or bath, or air-conditioned spot like a public building.
