PGA pro Nick Taylor stops by Chilliwack Wednesday to raise funds for kids in sports

CHILLIWACK — PGA pro and Abbotsford native Nick Taylor hasn’t forgotten the Fraser Valley or the vast network of local connections he’s built.

Taylor, who rose to immediate fame with a dramatic win at the RBC Canadian Open in 2023 with a dramatic 72-foot birdie putt on the fourth playoff hole, stopped by District 1881 in downtown Chilliwack to kick off the campaign season to raise money for JumpStart, The First Tee and Chilliwack Community Services.

Taylor frequented the popular downtown commercial district to host some eager kids with a putting contest, prizes and some golf lessons. Taylor is collaborating with the Algra Bros. in an effort to raise much needed funds to help kids in the Fraser Valley have the ability to play the sports they love.

The 4th annual Nick Taylor Charity Pro-Am happens Thursday, September 5 at Cultus Lake Golf Club.

Nick Taylor was accompanied by tournament organizers Chris Bertram and Phil Algra during his visit to District 1881 Wednesday morning.

The 2023 Nick Taylor Charity Classic at Cultus Lake Golf Course, sponsored by Algra Brothers, was a win-win on many fronts.

Not only did Mother Nature cooperate with sunny skies and temperate weather, but attendees helped raise funds for Jumpstart, junior golf programs and endowment scholarships at the University of the Fraser Valley.

Taylor took part in the charitable event bearing his namesake. Fans got a pre-round meet-and-greet with Taylor before teeing off (Sept. 14, 2023), time at the Top Tracer golf simulation experience, lunch, dinner and a putting contest at Tap-Ins.

Jumpstart has helped over 2.4 million kids across Canada get involved in activities like swimming, soccer and hockey since 2005.

Taylor himself has been a big supporter of the University of the Fraser Valley, including its golf program. Taylor previously took time away from his PGA Tour schedule by playing in the Algra Brothers UFV Cascades Pro-Am at Ledgeview Golf Club in Abbotsford.
