HOPE — An altercation between a pair of groups appears to have led to a weekend shooting in Hope that sent one man to hospital with serious injuries.

According to Hope RCMP, police responded to a report of shots fired in the 58000 block of Laidlaw Road on Sunday (June. 30) at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers identified a female suspect and promptly took her into custody. A man suffering from a gunshot wound was located at the scene and transported to the hospital. Police say the victim suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The initial investigation suggests two groups of people were involved in an dispute prior to the gun being used. The details of the confrontation remain under investigation.

Members from the Chilliwack RCMP, the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team, and the BC Highway Patrol also attended the scene to provide assistance.

Authorities are confident there is no ongoing threat to the public and are asking the public to come forward with any information that may assist with the police investigation.
