Update: Chilliwack RCMP investigating fire at abandoned house on McNaught Road

**Update at 10 a.m. Friday: The Chilliwack Fire Department says 24 firefighters from Halls 1, 4 and 6 were dispatched for the report of a structure fire in the 9500 block of McNaught Road. Crews arrived to discover flames coming from the front windows of a boarded-up residential home.

According to a news release from Assistant Fire Chief Wade Meeres, firefighters established a water supply and quickly took action to contain the blaze, successfully preventing it from spreading beyond the single structure. After a thorough search, crews confirmed that the building was unoccupied. In addition to the fire department, Hydro and RCMP were also present at the scene. There were no injuries to the public or firefighters.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the RCMP with support from the Chilliwack Fire Department. Anyone with information regarding this fire is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).**

CHILLIWACK — At least three fire engines were dispatched around 3 a.m. early Friday (June 28) after the Chilliwack Fire Department received a report of a house on fire in the 9500 block of McNaught Road, near Little Mountain.

According to scanner traffic captured by Chilliwack resident Julie Hiscock, who works graveyard and monitors overnight scanner traffic, firefighters were called to McNaught Road at 3:09 a.m. for reports of flames at the front door.

Firefighters arrived on scene at 3:16 a.m. approximately and discovered flames emanating from two sides of the home.

The fire was suppressed by 3:35 a.m., at which time one social media commenter said the home was still smoking.

The home in question may be abandoned, according to scanner traffic.

The home in question was purchased for $1,150,000 in November 2021, but has since dropped to an assessed value of $827,000, according to publicly available records on B.C. Assessment’s website.
