CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack Search and Rescue personnel were activated Thursday morning after two hikers reportedly required assistance between Greendrop Lake and Flora Lake in the rugged backcountry north of Chilliwack Lake Road, according to a nearby Chilliwack River Valley resident.

Derrick Kramer, who sometimes documents the work of heroic first responders in the Chilliwack River Valley since he lives nearby, says rescue crews were dispatched after two hikers were reportedly disoriented and tired between Greendrop and Flora. Chilliwack Search and Rescue personnel were reportedly able to get the hikers down to the helicopter pad at Lindeman and extracted them by helicopter, Kramer reported.

No B.C. Emergency Health Services paramedics or Chilliwack RCMP were on Chilliwack Lake Road at the time the helicopter landed, Kramer said.

Kramer shared images of rescue crews near a helicopter just off Chilliwack Lake Road.

It’s a regular occurrence to have rescue operations in the Chilliwack River Valley when summertime arrives, Kramer said.

“This happens almost every weekend or second weekend,” Kramer said. “There’s probably 3 feet of snow on the backside where those people were. And so the season starts with rescues.”

In speaking with Chilliwack SAR volunteers on scene, Kramer said he believes the hikers were in the boulder fields between Greendrop and Flora.
