ABBOTSFORD — Vigilant correctional staff at a Fraser Valley prison have seized contraband involving meth, THC concentrate and other illicit items worth over $114,000.

According to a news release from Correctional Service Canada, contraband and unauthorized items were seized on Monday, June 10, due to the vigilance of staff at Matsqui Institution, a medium-security federal institution.

The seized items consisted of THC concentrate, methamphetamine, tobacco, SD cards and card readers. The total estimated institutional value of these seizures is $114,500.

The Abbotsford Police Department has been notified and the institution is investigating.

CSC employs a number of strategies to preclude the entry of drugs into its prison facilities. These tools include ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates, and visitors.

CSC is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.
