Updated: Search and rescue operation in Dewdney results in discovery of man’s body Saturday

**Update at 7:30 p.m. Saturday: The body of a 37-year-old man has been recovered, according to Mission RCMP Corporal Harrison Mohr. Late Saturday afternoon, search and rescue crews managed to locate and recover the body of the boat operator who died as a result of a boating accident in Nicomen Slough on Friday.  Mission Search and Rescue and Mission RCMP would like to thank the public for their concern, especially those who offered to assist in the search efforts, and they send their deepest condolences to the man’s family and friends.**

MISSION — Mounties in Mission say a search and rescue operation involving a boating accident is underway near the Dewdney Bridge Friday evening (June 14).

According to a brief statement from the Mission RCMP detachment at 8:46 p.m., Mounties say Mission Search and Rescue, Mission Fire Rescue Service, B.C. EHS paramedics and Mission RCMP are currently in the area of Dewdney Bridge, east of Mission, for a boating accident.

Police say a small boat reportedly overturned shortly before 6:30 p.m. One of the occupants was able to make it to shore, but the other is missing at this time. Search efforts are currently underway.

Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161.

Mission RCMP spokesperson Corporal Harrison Mohr says there is no media availability Friday evening. More information will likely be available Saturday morning.
