CHILLIWACK — Four months after announcing it would expand its successful retail store footprint, Tydel Foods, a pillar of generosity in the community, will hold a grand opening in its new downtown Chilliwack location today (June 13).

Tydel Foods, a small business owned by Brigida Crosbie and Tony Pitzoff that extends a helping hand to vulnerable residents of Chilliwack with free and discounted food products, will celebrate the opening of its second location in District 1881, located in unit 104 at 45922 Thunderbird Lane, Thursday from noon to 7 p.m.

“As always, our commitment to putting people over profit remains steadfast and this shop will continue to serve our community with the same low prices,” Tydel Foods wrote in a social media post in February 2024 announcing its expansion into District 1881. “With the support of our community, we’re expanding our reach to serve you better.”

Crosbie said Tydel Foods has progressed from humble beginnings in a fifth wheel to a new townhouse in District 1881.

“This journey embodies our dedication to growth while staying rooted in our values,” Crosbie said in February 2024. “Needless to say our 5th wheel is now up for sale. Stay tuned for the grand opening of our quaint, community-focused shop, coming your way shortly!”

Crosbie and Pitzoff consistently sell chicken and beef at competitive prices below the big box stores.

But it’s the humanitarian side of her small business in downtown Chilliwack that continues to distinguish her from other butchers and retailers in town.

Crosbie handed out well over 700 meals during the 2022 Christmas season and donated hundreds of articles of clothing during the cold winter months.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the Volunteers that have come in to help with meal prep, putting meals together, delivering meals, and all those that have graciously, during the holiday season…made potatoes, stuffing, gravy, veggies, pies, treats, and cookies, and to those that bought food and brought it into our shop,” Crosbie wrote on Facebook back in December 2022.

She also expressed thanks to the countless community angels that donated warm clothing and blankets for those suffering from homelessness.

“Something like this is not the work of just one person,” Crosbie concluded. “This is definitely because our community comes forward to help each other in times of need. God bless each of you!”

In March 2023, she began accepting donations to help bring meat to Ukrainian families that are in need in Chilliwack.

“While doing our free Christmas meals, [Chilliwack] Community Services asked us to put many Ukrainian families on our list and I realized how high the need is to help each other,” said Crosbie, who wrote that meat is usually the most expensive grocery item.

Tydel Foods will maintain its current location at 45766 Patten Avenue just off Main Street.
