HARRISON MILLS — Shaw (Rogers) customers in Harrison Mills, Lake Errock and Deroche have lost internet connectivity due to an apparent act of vandalism involving fibre lines.

According to the Shaw website, some customers in those three rural communities experienced an interruption in their internet, TV and home phone services due to what technical crews have determined was a fibre cut caused by vandalism. Shaw’s website says repairing a damaged fibre line can typically take 8-12 hours once fibre technicians are able to safely begin their work.

Internet, TV and home phone services were interrupted Thursday morning (June 13) at approximately 7:50 a.m., possibly earlier. The 7:50 a.m. time stamp on the Shaw website simply indicates when Shaw was first made aware of it.

“We are working to restore service as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” Shaw wrote on its support website. “We will continue to provide updates as our technicians assess the situation on site.”

Rogers estimates it might be able to restore full services to the affected customers by 7 p.m. Thursday night. One person impacted by the Rogers outage wrote on Facebook that she did not want to miss Thursday night online bingo offered by the Chilliwack Dogwood Monarch Lions Club. Tonight’s bingo grand prize is $20,000 for a full bingo card.
