CHILLIWACK — It’s more than a safe haven for homeless cats in Chilliwack.

To date, over 1,250 cats have been placed into loving homes thanks to the work of the Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven, where cats are housed until they’re adopted into their “furr-ever” home.

And if the amount of donated items they’ve received for their first ever online auction is any indication, people wholeheartedly support the work of Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven.

Jackie Smith, one of the many supporters of the haven, says over $33,000 worth of donated items has been donated for its inaugural online auction fundraiser, one that supports the noble work of Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven.

The auction gets underway this Friday, June 14 at 9 a.m. and wraps up Sunday morning, June 16 at 9 a.m.

Smith says the dedicated team of enthusiastic supporters includes Julie Chadwick, Jann Timmers, Stacey Gibson, Alyssa Surman, treasurer Katherine Lemond, and Christy Moschopedis, who provided valuable assistance by reaching out to local veterinarians.

Proceeds from the silent auction will enable Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven to cover costs like vet bills, spaying and neutering cats, food, litter products, and much needed senior cat support.

“In eight short weeks, our team has collected items from Okanagan to Victoria that have surpassed our expectations with over $33,500 in donations,” Smith said. “Items range from gift cards to restaurants to zoos and so many great things in between. Thank you everyone for donating and for bidding.”

Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven relies on the generosity of donations and grants to cover its expenses, so the silent auction will go a long way to lend a hand to Chilliwack’s furry feline friends.

Its stated mission, according to the auction website, is the following:

  • To represent homeless cats and kittens in the area by providing them with a permanent haven;
  • To end, where possible, the suffering of these animals by providing medical treatment, shelter, food, rescue, companionship, and new homes by adoption;
  • To reduce the number of cats and kittens at risk through education and the promotion of a spay/neuter program in the community; and
  • To work with veterinarians and liaise with other societies on issues that will affect animal care.
