Relief for family as Ibrahim Ali receives life sentence for murder of Burnaby girl
CHILLIWACK — The brother of a 13-year-old girl murdered in 2017 says he hopes his sister’s killer is never granted parole. Ibrahim Ali was convicted in the first-degree murder of the Burnaby girl and on Friday, received a life sentence without the chance of parole for 25 years.
The girl’s brother, who can’t be identified because of a publication ban on the girl’s name, says he now feels a sense of relief.
Last December a jury took less than 24 hours to reach a guilty verdict at the end of an eight-month trial. The court heard Ali’s D-N-A matched semen found in the girl’s body.
B-C’s homicide team is praising investigators following news of the sentence. “This was a complex investigation that had a profound effect on the entire province,” said Superintendent Mandeep Mooker, Officer-in-Charge of IHIT in a news release. “It’s a result of the unwavering dedication of the investigative team, supported by all of IHIT and the BC RCMP, whose relentless pursuit of the evidence led them to using cutting-edge forensic technology, which brought us to today’s successful conclusion.”
