Chilliwack RCMP confirms that a man died after being struck by a train near Eagle Landing Parkway

CHILLIWACK — A Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson has advised Fraser Valley Today that a man died after being struck by a train Wednesday morning.

According to a statement from Corporal Carmen Kiener, spokesperson for the Chilliwack RCMP detachment, Mounties in Chilliwack responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a train near Eagle Landing Parkway.

On arrival, Chilliwack RCMP officers located a deceased male in the area that had suffered injuries consistent with being struck by a train. The male has been identified, Cpl. Kiener said, and his identity will not be released at this time as police attempt to contact his family.

The B.C. Coroners Service will be working with the Chilliwack RCMP to determine what led up to the incident, Cpl. Kiener said.

The roadway and train crossing will be closed for an unknown period of time while police investigate.

Chilliwack Fire Department, RCMP and B.C. Ambulance Service paramedics were dispatched shortly after 8:15 a.m. for the report of a train versus a pedestrian.

According to scanner traffic, Chilliwack Fire Engines 1 and 4 cleared the scene at 8:52 a.m. The scene was left in care of RCMP.

A Fraser Valley Today reporter visited the scene at 8:58 a.m. and witnessed an RCMP SUV cruiser blocking northbound Eagle Landing Parkway near Home Depot.

Three police units with sirens activated were stationed on the south side of the train tracks. A train on the tracks stopped and was not in motion as of 8:59 a.m.
