Jun 1, 2024 | 8:29 AM

CHILLIWACK — Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement warning of heavy rain for parts of the B.C. Lower Mainland including the Fraser Valley.

While rain is in the forecast all weekend, the warning speaks specifically to Sunday. It says residents can expect up to 60 mm of rain.

Forecasters say a Pacific frontal system will arrive on the South Coast Sunday morning before spreading east to Abbotsford, Chilliwack and Hope.

The rain will begin Sunday morning and continue through the day. The heaviest downpours are expected in the afternoon. Environment Canada says residents could experience flash flooding and water pooling on roadways. Localized flooding could occur in flood-prone low-lying areas.
