Elections BC hiring multiple staff for fall election with salaries of $21-$26/hr.

CHILLIWACK — The provincial elections agency tasked with managing and planning electoral events says it is looking for enthusiastic individuals to provide support through the October 2024 provincial general election.

According to its website, Elections BC says it is recruiting enumerators, office support staff, recruiters, election equipment officers, lead election equipment officers, trainers and office managers in 93 ridings across British Columbia.

In Chilliwack, there are two ridings: Chilliwack North and Chilliwack-Cultus Lake.

Elections BC administers provincial general elections, by-elections, recall petitions, initiative petitions, initiative votes, referenda and plebiscites, and oversees campaign financing and advertising rules at the local level.

The salary range begins at $21 an hour for enumerators and office support staff.

Enumerators conduct the following activities:

  • travels to locations to register new voters and updates/confirms existing voter records in person
  • provides information and raises awareness about the upcoming provincial general election

Office support staff are tasked with the following:

  • performs general administrative duties, such as data entry, answering inquiries, administering voting and supply management
  • supports recruitment and training activities
  • oversees reception and provides client service

Recruiters and election equipment officers are next up on the salary range at $24/hour.

Recruiters are assigned the following responsibilities:

  • supports the effective and efficient hiring of election officials for the electoral district
  • organizes and maintains applicant and employee records
  • tracks and reports on recruitment progress
  • assists the DEO with making selection decisions

Election equipment officers typically handle the following:

  • sets up and takes down office automation technology in the district electoral office
  • prepares voting technology for deployment to voting places
  • maintains and tracks voting technology as it is deployed and returned

Lead election equipment officers, trainers and the electoral district office manager are each paid $26 an hour.

Trainers plan, facilitate and deliver face-to-face training to all election officials employed in the electoral district. The trainer works to ensure that all election officials have completed the online and classroom training necessary to perform their duties.

The office manager oversees the smooth and efficient day-to-day operations of the district electoral office and supervises the work of support staff.

Staff who are hired can expect to work approximately four to six weeks of work in September and October 2024. There are both full-time and part-time positions spanning Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some additional hours or evening shifts may be required.
